CONGRATULATIONS to KJN Dan for this great review
of THE DRAGONS OF ANTIOCH !!

From Publishers Weekly:
"The Karate Kid meets The Chronicles of Narnia in this tale of four average teenagers whose humor and modern sensibilities counterweigh the serious Asian traditions in this martial arts adventure perfect for preteens and young teens. Thirteen year-olds Baker Chen, Bobby Sheriff, Amry Dobbins, and Chandler Caldwell have accidentally uncovered a highly guarded Chen family secret--a witty, ravenous, ancient dragon named Ming whose very presence puts them in mortal danger. Led by Baker’s seemingly frail grandfather, the kids begin highly specific martial arts training in earnest in order to protect the dragon and to save their way of life. Specific skills are explained to the reader under the pretext of teaching the children both the objective and the history of the arts but are not overwhelming to the story. With relatable male and female characters and a swift pace, readers will enjoy the weaving of the supernatural of the past, present and future with a firm grounding in the martial arts mindset"

4. “What Goes Up: Two Types of Falling Techniques.”   There are actually two basic types of falling techniques: Body protection falls and martial arts gymnastics. A comparison between the two and a progressive training program for the latter

5. “Sticky Solutions: Masking Tape As An Essential Training Tool” The many different uses of masking tape in training and teaching.

6. “Adaptation: The Key to Your Martial Arts Survival.”   Do you know what killed the dinosaurs? No, I mean what really killed them – not the killer asteroid, not global warming or global cooling, not a stronger species or a virulent plague. These are all suggested causes certainly, but what actually killed the dinosaur was its inability to adapt to a change in its environment. The same thing could be killing your martial art if you aren’t aware of the problem. Black Belt Magazine: May 2009 – title changed by editor to: “Adapt or Die!

7. “Winning With Abandon.”  When we think of the word ‘abandon’ it is most often nearly synonymous with retreat or giving up, so how can the concept of abandonment actually help us to win a contest or conflict, not to give up, but to actually come out ahead? The idea of not ‘fighting for a technique’ by developing a mindset of abandonment, so that if we find ourselves in the midst of a technique that isn’t working – or isn’t working well – we move on immediately, adapting and blending and trying ‘chains’ of technique, if necessary, until we find the combination that will win.
